I travelled to Timor-Leste for a student internship. Under the guidance of Dr Wendy Chandler of Western Sydney University and together with 9 other university students, some academics and industry partners, we made documentary media stories with a range of video of photography. In this project we tell the stories of 10 university students from Timor-Leste and 10 university students from Australia. It was both humbling and inspiring to share these student’s stories of hardship and triumph, resilience and hope. The trailer above produced by Dr Chandler shows our combined work. Below is some of the photography and video works that I contributed to the project.

I photographed these images from various vantages including street photography as well as travelling along bumpy roads in the back of a microlet van or a four wheel drive. We also visited schools, villages and were also invited into homes which was very special. I will always remember the amazing connections I made with the beautiful of people of Timor Leste and capturing this with my camera lens.

Andres’ Story - My contribution to this project involved creating special visual effects using historal photagraphs and images. I stylistically altered the photographs with painting in photoshop and then animated the images to match cohesively with the aesthetic of the overall project. See timecode 0:13 - 0:32 and timecode 0:39 -0:44 for the visual effects that I created.
